With CVT technology, the new PowrPro is continuously reading and changing the EFI delivery of your motorcycle, no matter what load it’s under and what the conditions are. The changes are instantaneous. In fact, whenever you open the throttle, the PowrPro will read the EFI delivery at a rate of up to 80 times per second! This quick reading allows the PowrPro to instantly change and optimize the air/fuel ratio.

With other systems, you have to sort through all of the available maps to find the one that matches your bike and performance modifications. So how can the PowrPro CVT make these instant readings without having your rear wheel on a dyno? Cobra has figured out that they can get sensitive readings from the load being placed on your crankshaft. Every time one of your cylinders fires, the crank momentarily speeds up. When you open up the throttle, the crank speed will accelerate and the converse will happen as you close the throttle. Cobra has figured out a way to measure the rate of crank acceleration and deceleration. By doing so, the PowrPro CVT can make a correlation with the crank speed and how much fuel is needed for maximum efficiency and power.
To ensure the PowrPro CVT is providing the best fuel ratio, it tests itself with comparative information. It can detect if the rate of the crank speed is where it should be. If it isn’t, it will adjust until it reaches the max potential. Cobra compares this process to old-time race tuners who would change out the jets until they found the best set up. The difference with the PowrPro CVT is that it has cut the process down to 80 times per second and is continuously adjusting the ratio, hence the name Continuously Variable Tuning.
In the past, fuel management systems would take readings from your bike’s O2 sensors to calculate the air/fuel demands. They would then take this information to adjust or correct the predetermined ratio. This process can definitely get it close, but it is not as accurate as it could be. As we all know, every bike is different, even from another that is the same year, make and model. Those canned maps do not account for the wear and tear that can accumulate on the different components for each bike, which makes every bike unique after time.
Because the PowrPro CVT is tuning your bike on the fly, you are always getting the most accurate and efficient air/fuel mixture possible. As the components on the bike change, so does the fuel ratio. Aging components are now accounted for by the fuel management system.
